The Nexus 4 Wireless Charger

There's really not a whole lot to say about the Nexus 4 Wireless Charger. It's a $59 Qi-standard compatible wireless charger that charges your Nexus 4. Plug it in, put the phone on it, and go. No muss, no fuss, thank you, drive through. This one's made specifically for the Nexus 4, though presumably other Qi-standard phones will work with it. Unlike, say, the Palm Touchstone, this one relies less on magnets to keep phone in place on the inclined face of the charger and more on the tackiness of the face of the charger itself. The rubber of the charger meets the glass of the phone, and it's not going anywhere. (It is quick to collect dust and lint, though.)

Size-wise, this thing's about like a sawed-off tennis ball. Only less fuzzy, less yellow, and more likely to actually charge your phone. It very much look like it's in the same family as the spherical Nexus Q, but it's much smaller. (In fact, the whole package is smaller than we imagined.)

The wireless charger will kick on the new Daydreams feature -- just be sure to set it to do so while charging in the settings. (It might take a second to kick in.)

Review: Nillkin case for the HTC Droid DNA

As you guys well know by now, I cycle between Android devices like I do my underoos (every few weeks). Since I’m often selling a previous device for the next greatest model, I like to ensure my devices stay in tip-top shape and near mint condition. There’s no better way to guarantee that than by outfitting a phone with a snazzy, stylish case.

Cruzerlite Androidified TPU Case for Samsung Galaxy Note II Video Review

Today we have another great Cruzerlite TPU case for the Samsung Galaxy Note II under review.  The case we’re reviewing is the Androidified case complete with Android Andy.  This case doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as the Spi-Force case we recently reviewed, but this is a great clean looking case.  I think it’s better looking than the Spi-Force for sure and is definitely something I would sport on my device.

So, by saying this case has no cons I’m not sure I’m saying this is the perfect case, but as far as meeting my criteria for a case (fit, protection, port access, looks) it does it all.  Be sure to check out the video review.

Nillkin leather flip cover for Nexus 7

The Nexus 7 is substantially more portable than larger tablets, and that means you may be more inclined to use a case. I've found the Nillkin leather flip cover for mine, and it's quite an impressive little case for the money. When I got my Nexus 7 I planned on carrying it with me more often, tossing it in the bag whenever I left the house. It's light and portable with great one-handed use, but I wanted to protect the screen when I wasn't using it.

The case is a thin, tough, two-tone unit with black rubber edges accenting a colored leather primary case (red, grey or black colors are available). The leather part has a texture to it that I could only describe as a large hard cover book binding, which is very reassuring when holding the Nexus 7 one handed and provides an ample amount of grip. The case snaps on around the tablet like a normal case would, with no extra flaps, straps or fasteners. The flip cover pulls double duty as a screen protector and a tri-fold stand, and is attached with heavy stitching to the back of the case. The cover has a magnet to wake and sleep the device when opened and closed, which is a nice touch.

The inside of the flip portion is a light brown microfiber material, which should protect the screen nicely and help soak up some smudges when it's resting on the screen. When you're ready to use the tablet, it flips back out of the way but has no magnet or fastener to keep it pinned back. Luckily the cover is very thin and folds over nicely to be held in a very natural position, so it doesn't add a whole lot of bulk when it's on the back. If you would prefer to use the cover as a stand, it props up the tablet low for activities like typing, or stands it up near a 45-degree angle for things like watching video.

Hands-on: Galaxy S3 Element Case

Accessory makers flock to the iPhone for virtue of simplicity: more people using fewer models. The much more fragmented Android device portfolio means accessory makers have to pick and choose which phones and tablets to support, each coming with risk depending on volume. But if you’re going to choose one sure shot phone for which to produce an accessory? You’re best bet is probably the Samsung Galaxy series and that’s exactly what they’ve done with the Galaxy S3 Element Case, named Atom.

The Galaxy S3 Element Case is the first non-iPhone case produced by the company and hopefully it won’t be the last. This thing is slick on a number of levels. First of all it does the obvious – protects your phone – but boy oh boy doe sit look good in the process.

Meet my friend Andru, the cutest USB charger in the world

Christmas has come and gone and if you have friends or family in other cities/states/countries, you’ve probably received a few gifts after the fact. This was the case for me when a good friend of mine was kind enough to send me the single greatest gift ever. His name is Andru and a few days ago he showed up on my doorstep. Let me introduce you to him.

Andru is a universal USB charger in the shape of everyone’s favorite mascot, Android’s “Bugdroid.” As an Android fanboy, you probably can’t get enough of this little guy and whether he’s on your shirt, car, or phone. A USB charger is the final component to complete and total Android fandom.

Official Nexus 7 audio dock gets unboxed on Youtube

Here's a look at the elusive Nexus 7 docking station live and in color on Youtube. We don't have a lot of information here, just that the fellow posting the video bought it at Yodobashi Camera in the Akihabara district in Japan. He had the opportunity to buy it a day early, and like any of us would, he jumped on it.

It looks to be the same dock we saw in late November, utilizing the pogo pons for charging and audio. That dock is no longer "coming soon" on the Asus Japan site, but it is listed as out of stock. There is no listing on the ASUS America site or the Global site.

We're not sure of what the availability will be, or if it is even coming to the states. We assume that it will, as the demand for the Nexus 7 is still very high. The dock would make for a great holiday gift, so hopefully we see it offered very soon.

Hands-On: Rearth Ringke Slim case for the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3

With the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and more recently, the Galaxy Note 2 on just about every cellphone provider with a network, I figured it’d be a good time to show you guys some protection available from Rearth, one of my favorite accessories maker. I honestly couldn’t be more clueless on how to pronounce their company name. No matter. They make some of the best cases on the market for a wide variety of devices, in a plethora of colors and finishes. I recently received a few of their cases in the mail — one in a matte finish for my Galaxy Note 2, and one glossy for my Galaxy S3. Let’s take a look.

Hands-on: Official Nexus 4 Bumper Case

If you managed to get a Nexus 4 from the mailman last/this week, chances are — like me — you worry every day about your shiny new smartphone meeting an early demise from a chance drop or spill. And who could blame you. The Nexus 4 is the first Nexus to feature glass on both the front and back of the device. That means it really wouldn’t take much to shatter that thing to a million pieces.

But today, I can rest a little easier now the UPS guy has paid my house a little visit, finally dropping off the official Nexus 4 Bumper Case. For those interested, here’s a quick video showcasing the bumper and after, I’ll go into a little more detail with my thoughts on the case. Enjoy.

Android Robot rocks out as desktop Pal Bot speaker

We’re halfway through publishing our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide, but I couldn’t resist sharing the awesomeness (and special PHANBOT offer) of the desktop android robot speaker called “Palbot”. It looks great, sounds great, it’s LOUD, it’s portable, the design/function was well thought out, and it gives you that Android robot love that emobdies the very personality of Phandroids around the world.

With the holidays coming up, the Go Groove Palbot makes an exceptional gift, and you’ll see it as one of my Editor picks tomorrow for the 2012 Holiday Gift Guide. But I wanted to spread the holiday spirit around a little bit, so figured I would give one away, in addition to sharing some more detail on the actual device.

First of all, the Palbot is versatile: it can play music from ANY device that has a 3.5mm headset jack. That could be your phone, your laptop, or anything else so long as its got a 3.5mm port. The Palbot is as plug and play as it gets which was refreshing, and with 2 foot long cord, it’s simple as pie to plug it in to whatever you’d like without having to shuffle things around.
