Hands-on Video: Mad Catz M.O.J.O. Android mini-consoleWe got a chance to play with the Mad Catz MOJO Android mini-console during this week s E3 gaming convention. Check out our hands-on video and pics for more information regarding the console, as well as our thoughts on why it could have a leg up on the competition. Still very much a work in progress, this tiny Android console is showing a bit more promise than offerings from OUYA or GameStick. For one, Mad Catz is holding their cards close to their chest, waiting to reveal final specs until closer to its release. They would only promise a high-end chipset will accompany the retail version, but wouldn’t commit to an SoC just yet, in an effort to keep the MOJO from becoming obsolete by the time it’s released. If true, that alone would help give the MOJO a leg up on its competition. |

Another look at Dead Trigger 2 on NVIDIA ShieldOur first look at Dead Trigger 2 at CES was great, and since then the game has come a long way. We met up with the guys from Madfinger Games at E3 for a walkthrough of a new gas station arena level. Of course the zombie-infested first-person shooter is well-known for its excellent graphics, and they're now including dynamic reflections and shadows in addition the the already great water and lighting effects. Graphics aside, Madfinger emphasized that Dead Trigger 2 plays fundamentally differently than the original. For one, there won't be any premium-only weapons; you'll be able to get everything through a blueprint-based crafting system. |

Gameloft Releases Modern Combat 5 Trailer Showing Pretty Graphics And Not Much ElseModern Combat has always been a “stereotypical” shooter with above average graphics for a mobile game. Modern Combat 4 was quite beautiful and fun, even if it was a bit cliche. That’s its thing. However, Gameloft has released the trailer for their newest iteration of the series, Modern Combat 5. In this trailer, they spend the first half letting you admire the beauty of the environments. There is a lot of detail for a mobile game, and the graphics are stunning. Then they show off little flashes of gameplay, the standard of the player wielding a big gun and shooting people. It’s always fun to do so. However, actual gameplay was really sparse, so we don’t know anything about how the game will play. Knowing Modern Combat, not so different from its predecessors. |

Final Fantasy IV now available in Google Play StoreThe Final Fantasy IV Android game is now available in the Google Play Store, and it's not one of the cheaper Android games out there. Square Enix, the developer of the game, must have been happy with the success of the Final Fantasy III Android game, which must be the reason why it chose to put the same $15.99 price tag on Final Fantasy IV. The game is hailed by the developers as a “complete 3D remake” of the game, initially launched in 1991, and also features voice acting for important scenes. The game also has selectable levels of difficulty and a new mapping feature, with the dungeons map empty, for added mystery. |

Rovio pushes Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage under new Stars programRovio Entertainment has announced their latest venture today, Rovio Stars, which is a mobile game publishing initiative. Basically, this is Rovio shifting from simply offering their own games to putting themselves in a position to push games from others. The name, Rovio Stars seems to be a play on what they intend to do — publish and in turn highlight games from other developers that they believe have potential. Rovio’s EVP of Games Jami Laes has said they want to help their fans find “quality entertainment.” While there hasn’t been any talk as to specific criteria for these games, they have mentioned “games with memorable characters and entertaining gameplay that are also just really fun to play.” Perhaps key here though, Rovio Stars marks the first time Rovio will have third party games available in their line-up. |
